Another iteration of Jimmy’s Double D Fishing Trip, version 13 was held on Lake Nipissing with a 5 day, 4 night stay for 19 participants at Nipissing Lodge, a short boat ride from Wade’s Landing. As always, the food, accommodations, and fellowship was excellent.
Fishing this year was once again fantastic with great numbers of fish caught, although the windy and rainy weather made getting out to the big water somewhat “nautical”. The cold water also made finding bass a bit of a challenge this year. Plenty of walleye caught and as well some massive jumbo perch made for a great fish fry on Saturday evening. Once again we were also treated to a few of Nipissing’s legendary sunsets.
Catch, measure and photograph, and release tournaments were held over four days in each of three categories: walleye, pike, and bass (using total length of each participants top three fish in each category). The entire group would like to thank the various sponsors who provided a pile of prizes for the tournaments. Congrats to this year’s overall champion, Mark Biesinger with 68 points. It was a tight race this year with tie-breakers needed as there was a three-way tie for second – with Brad Harrow, Doug Biesinger and Mitch Boertien having 66 points each. Congrats to walleye division winner Brad Harrow, pike division winner Randy Ongena, and bass division winner Jackson Blowes. Can’t wait for JDD XIV next year!
